The Adventure Scholars Difference
-
Connecting Past and Present
Unlike a travel agency, our exclusive focus on civil rights and our wrap-around educational programing provide students an unmatched depth of experience and understanding of the region and its history. This begins with educational online opportunities prior to the tour as well as a tutoring session for those wishing to leverage the experience to strengthen their college or financial aid applications.
With our specialized expertise and our personal connections to those who fought on the frontlines, as well as our educators across the region, we ensure each visit is a meaningful exploration of the Civil Rights Movement past, present, and future.

Wrap Around Programming
Before they even pack their bags, students are offered an interactive online video series with guest speakers. Students will learn about the daily struggles of sharecroppers, the power of street art as a form of protest, and the origins of iconic music genres like Jazz and Blues. These small-group sessions let students connect with experts and fellow travelers, building a strong foundation for their adventure.
On the road, we'll take time to reflect and grow. Through several group discussions and activities, artwork, or journaling, we'll have the chance to process each day’s experience and gain a deeper understanding of how history shapes our world today. It's not just about seeing the sights; it's about connecting the dots and making the past relevant.
We’re here to ensure travelers get the most out of the experience. Some students may want to use what they've learned to write an outstanding essay for college applications, enhance their resume, or discover opportunities to make a positive impact in their community. Our Adventure Scholar advisors are here to support our travelers with a free optional post-tour mentoring session to help them convey their experience and share what they’ve learned from the program.

Safety and Connection
Each participant will stay connected and informed through our secure app. At Adventure Scholars, we prioritize creating a safe and interactive community of travelers. Our private app keeps everyone in the loop, 24/7, from tour leaders to fellow adventurers.
Our tour leaders use the app to share important information, send scheduling reminders, and to notify travelers of any itinerary changes.
Travelers can securely share photos, documents, and direct messages with others in the group and the tour leaders. Plus, travelers can track the group's location and stay connected throughout the trip.
Health and well-being is priority number one! That’s why each tour manager is trained in CPR and First Aid and knows where health care facilities are in each city we visit. Additionally, prior to each tour, all students will be required to provide a copy of their health insurance card and complete a short questionnaire regarding allergies and any necessary accommodations.
Each tour will have at least one adult chaperone for every 12 student travelers. Our days are very full, therefore, our high school student travelers will not be allowed to leave the group for any independent exploration.
Prior to departure, students and their parents/guardians will be required to sign an agreement of understanding regarding the tour rules and the consequences of violating those rules.
-
Passionate Leaders
At the heart of our tours are the dedicated individuals who bring history to life. Our knowledgeable guides, local hosts, and guest speakers provide context, answer questions, and foster meaningful discussions.
From our subject matter experts and educators who develop our itineraries, to our back-office staff booking hotels, ground transportation, and restaurants, each member of our team is committed to providing an inspiring, unforgettable, and safe experience.

Partners and Vendors
Our commitment to authentic cultural experiences extends beyond our tour itineraries. We believe in the importance of supporting the regional economies marginalized communities we visit along our journey.
Whenever possible, we strive to work with local and minority-owned businesses for accommodations, dining, transportation, shopping, and guide services. In doing so, we not only contribute to a more equitable tourism industry but we also provide our travelers with a truly immersive and authentic experience throughout their journey.
Your support helps to uplift these businesses and the communities they serve, creating a lasting positive impact.
